Arrive at Juan Santamaría International Airport and after collection by your guide at the airport, transfer to your hotel for check in. The afternoon is dedicated to discovering San José’s alternative culture. You will visit local markets, green spaces and historical buildings. To end the day you will have dinner and you will taste local and traditional dishes from Costa Rica.
Today you move to Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park. The park is a wonderful blend of volcanic activity and rainforest. It offers opportunities to relax in natural hot springs and mud baths. Moreover, enjoy gentle hikes through the park’s trails where you can see monkeys, butterflies and birds such as the toucans. Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park is ideal for families.
Explore Rincón de la Vieja National Park with a guided nature walk highlighting the volcanic features, endemic plants, and animal life. Optional canopy zip-lining or hanging bridges provide thrilling yet safe opportunities to see the rainforest from above, suitable for older children and adults.
Drive to La Fortuna, home to the majestic Arenal Volcano. Take a guided hike along trails through volcanic terrain and lush forest, learning about the region’s geological history and diverse flora and fauna. Experience the Mistico Hanging Bridges for unique forest perspectives.
La Fortuna Waterfall is simply amazing! The view from the top is spectacular and if you fancy a dip in the river pool below you can even take a swim! The kids will love it. In the evening you will relax in one of the many hot springs, located in the middle of the rainforest with stunning views of the volcano and the kids can come too!
Today you leave for Sarapiquí and visit a rural farm where typical families from the country that work the land live. You learn about their agriculture, taste some of the products that they produce and, simply, chat with them. You can take a gentle walk through the trails of the farm and find out more about the daily life of these typical rural families of Costa Rica.
This evening you travel with the family to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and explore the culture and history of the area by visiting the city of Limón and then traveling to the charming town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. Check into our hotel and then can relax on the beach, take a stroll around the town or sample some of the local Caribbean cuisine.
Get the best out of your time in this beautiful tropical setting in Cahuita National Park. Go for a day of long hiking in the nature trails passing through a lush rain forest. Look for howler monkeys, iguanas, sloths and a lot more. After all that energy spent hiking up and down the hills, take a snorkeling tour to a coral reef, where you can see for yourself why there are so many tropical fish species. In the afternoon learn all about the Afro-Caribbean culture and the history of the town and its people.
Enjoy a day at leisure on the beach, kayaking, swimming or strolling through town. Optional cultural workshops or guided nature walks are available to deepen the experience.
Return to San José via scenic routes with stops for photography and short walks. Transfer to Juan Santamaría International Airport for your flight home, reflecting on the family-friendly adventure through Costa Rica’s landscapes, wildlife and cultural heritage.
