A warm welcome to Quito, the capital of Ecuador, where you will start your 1 month adventure touring this beautiful country. From the air Quito looks just as you would imagine a city in an Andean valley surrounded by high mountains. Quito is an old city with lots of history and the rest of your day is free to arrive at your hotel and recover from your long flight and to start to get used to your surroundings. On arrival at Quito airport you will be greeted by your driver who will transfer you to your hotel.

Begin your exploration in Quito’s historic heart, one of South America’s most impressive colonial centers. Visit Independence Square before stepping inside La Compañía de Jesús, a church known for its volcanic stone, cedarwood and gold-leaf interior. Continue to the grand Basilica and Convent of San Francisco, one of Ecuador’s most important religious landmarks. Walk through La Ronda, an old street now filled with cafés, music, artisan shops and local atmosphere. Later, travel north to the Ciudad Mitad del Mundo, where the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet. Visit the monument, museums, planetarium, chapel, old train station and a scale model of Quito for a rounded introduction to Ecuadorian culture, science and history.

Escape the capital and visit the Cloud Forest of Mindo, a unique and beautiful eco-tourism destination in Ecuador. The Cloud Forest of Mindo is located at the foothills of the Andes and it has a constant mild climate. Here you can appreciate a huge amount of waterfalls, valleys, rivers and forests. Moreover, you can find hundreds of species of plants and animals, such as tropical flowers and trees and a great variety of insects like butterflies, and many species of orchids and birds. You can visit the Mariposas de Mindo (Butterflies of Mindo) farm, hike to a waterfall or practice extreme sports like canyoning or zip-lining through the trees on one of the many forest circuits. 

Enjoy another full day in Mindo, allowing yourself to slow down and appreciate the remarkable ecosystem around you. The cloud forest is a paradise for travelers who love wildlife, soft adventure and immersive natural settings. You may choose to explore deeper into the forest, search for more birdlife or join a chocolate experience that follows cacao from bean to finished treat. Learn how local chocolate is produced, understand the importance of cacao in the region and finish with a delicious tasting that adds a sweet note to your time in the cloud forest.

The famous market of Otavalo is considered to be one of the most important traditional markets in South America. Here you can find an enormous choice of local products, such as textiles, fruits and vegetables, handicrafts and local food. In the afternoon you visit a small village on the slopes of Mount Imbabura. In this village you have a special ‘weaving encounter’ in a local home and workshop. The backstrap weaving of the local skilled artisans is of a very special nature. Their designs are sacred and mostly not for sale in the market. The artisans carefully protect their designs and only in exceptional cases they show them to outsiders. In the local home and workshop you can watch how they weave and even try to weave yourself. Of course you can also buy some of the beautiful pieces that are made here.

Before returning to Quito, enjoy a hands-on culinary experience hosted by a Kichwa Otavalo family. In a warm, family-run setting, you will learn how traditional Andean dishes are prepared using seasonal ingredients and long-held techniques. Harvest fresh produce from the garden, cook over a traditional tulpa fireplace, grind corn flour and discover the flavors that shape everyday life in the highlands. This is a relaxed, personal way to connect with Ecuador through food, family stories and local hospitality.

Depart from Quito heading south to Cotopaxi National Park, at the foot of the highest snow capped volcano in Ecuador. A beautiful highland lake, surrounded by Andean birds, wild horses and native plants, stands at the foot of Cotopaxi. A spectacular hike around Limpiopungo Lake is followed by a push to the José Ribas Refuge, if weather and altitude permits. A lovely traditional hacienda located near the park is the base for overnight stay surrounded by the peaceful highland atmosphere of the Andes.

Today brings one of the most memorable Andean experiences of the journey: horseback riding through Cotopaxi National Park. Set out across windswept plains, native forest and high-altitude landscapes that have long been part of the world of the chagras, Ecuador’s mountain cowboys. As you ride beneath the watchful peak of Cotopaxi, the scenery shifts from open grassland to volcanic terrain, with wildlife such as rabbits, deer, birds and wild horses often appearing along the way. The experience offers both adventure and a deeper sense of the traditions that continue to shape rural life in the Ecuadorian Andes.

Set out for Quilotoa, a spectacular volcanic crater lake whose green and blue tones shift with the light. You may walk along the rim for panoramic views or descend toward the water’s edge for a closer look at this remarkable natural amphitheater. The climb back can be demanding and mules are usually available for those who prefer assistance on the ascent. After your visit, continue toward Baños, where volcanic landscapes, waterfalls and thermal waters will introduce the next chapter of your Ecuador journey.

This morning, your private driver-guide will introduce you to Baños, a lively town set in a lush valley known for waterfalls, hot springs and outdoor adventure. The surrounding scenery is dramatic, with mountains, rivers and cascades creating a natural playground. Stop at beautiful viewpoints and photo locations along the way, then choose how active you would like the day to be. Baños offers everything from thermal baths and scenic walks to adrenaline-filled pursuits. Later, relax in the hot springs and enjoy the restorative side of this beloved Ecuadorian destination.

Depart Baños and head south along the Pastaza River through a magnificent valley filled with waterfalls, walking trails and lush tropical rainforest. A short walk from Río Verde is the spectacular Pailón del Diablo (Devil’s Cauldron), one of the most powerful and photographed waterfalls in Ecuador. Return to Baños for some well-deserved relaxation in the many thermal baths in the area. In the afternoon visit the famous Casa del Árbol (Tree House) with its magnificent views and fantastic swing over the valley. Return to your accommodation in the evening to relax as you please.

Take a slower morning before setting off on the long but beautiful journey to Cuenca. Your driver will make stops along the way, giving you time to appreciate the changing Andean landscapes as valleys, highlands and rural communities pass by. On arrival in Cuenca, enjoy an introductory walking tour of its UNESCO-listed historic center. Admire the city’s colonial elegance, cobblestone streets, churches, plazas and refined atmosphere, then continue to nearby Turi for a panoramic view over the rooftops before settling into your hotel.

Cuenca is the base for this tour covering heritage, handicrafts and scenic places of Azuay. First you explore Cuenca historic center and then travel to other towns and villages, each with their own culture and ways of handicrafts production. Chordeleg is known for its fine silver work, Gualaceo for the big variety of orchids and weavings and Sígsig where the famous “Panama hat” by skilled craftsmen is produced. After a long day, return to Cuenca, to enjoy in the evening either a quiet night or a night out in the city.

Transfer to Mariscal Lamar Airport this morning for your domestic flight back to Quito. On arrival, your driver will take you directly to the TelefériQo, one of the highest cable cars in the world. As the cable car rises up the slopes of Pichincha Volcano, take in extraordinary views over Quito and the surrounding volcanoes, including Antisana, Cotopaxi and Cayambe. The journey climbs to around 4,000 meters, where the vegetation shifts into the Andean páramo ecosystem. At the top, enjoy a short walk and dramatic viewpoints before returning to the city.

Fly from Quito to El Coca, the gateway to your Amazon experience. From here, continue to the Napo Cultural Center, located within the ancestral territory of the Kichwa Añangu community. On arrival, you will be welcomed with a refreshing glass of traditional wayusa. In the afternoon, follow the Playas trail for your first glimpse of Amazon wildlife in one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. The route traces riverbanks, islands and forest edges. Optional kayaking may also be possible, offering a peaceful sunset over the wide Napo River before dinner and a night surrounded by rainforest sounds.

Begin the day at sunrise before visiting community-led sustainability projects that reveal the close relationship between people and rainforest in Yasuní. Walk along the Mama Cuna trail, where ceiba trees, vines, bamboo, shrubs and native wildlife create a rich natural corridor. After lunch, paddle along the Añangu stream, watching for monkeys, caiman and giant river otters. Dinner introduces local Amazon flavors, perhaps including maito, fish wrapped and grilled in bijao leaves, with more adventurous tastes available too. After dark, join a guided night walk to search for nocturnal reptiles, insects, mammals and night monkeys.

Depart in a motorboat to visit a parrot clay lick on the banks of the Napo River. This is one of the most wonderful natural spectacles in the world and can be appreciated from a boat while being in contact with nature. You will find binoculars to observe up close blue-headed parrots, yellow-crowned parrots, dusky-headed parakeets and many other species of birds that come to the lick to search for minerals to feed on. In the afternoon you continue on the Pericos trail that ends in a clearing of the forest where there is a clay lick and you can observe parrots, parakeets, parrotlets, macaws and even mammals like howler monkeys, tapirs and peccaries. Later on, you visit the Kuri Muyu intercultural interpretation center where you will learn about the Kichwa customs and crafts and how they use the natural resources in a traditional way.

Today is devoted to the quieter wonder of the rainforest. Climb an observation tower rising nearly 40 meters above the forest floor and look out across the vast green canopy of Yasuní. From this privileged viewpoint, watch for monkeys moving through the trees and tropical birds flashing through the branches. The afternoon is left intentionally peaceful, allowing you to rest, listen, observe and savor your final full day in the Amazon before dinner at the lodge.

4:30a.m. Visit a sacred Kichwa and enjoy some wayusa (herbal tea made from the leaves of a special tree from the Amazon that has been used for centuries for energizing and cleansing) and singing of local songs. You will also meditate together and explore the subject of dreams and how they are interpreted. For over 2,000 years Amazonian cultures have honored and tried to live in harmony with the many spiritual forces that surround us. After breakfast we will take a motorized canoe back to El Coca to take our flight to Quito.

Fly west from Quito to San Cristóbal Island, where the Galápagos chapter of your journey begins. After checking in, visit the island’s interpretation center to learn about volcanic origins, wildlife, conservation and the impact of human history on the archipelago. Continue to Tijeretas Hill, named after the frigatebirds that nest in the area and enjoy views over San Cristóbal and the coastline. Depending on the season, whales may sometimes be seen offshore. Finish at La Lobería, a beach where sea lions and marine iguanas bring the Galápagos wildlife experience immediately to life.

Today you will explore two exceptional Galápagos locations: Española Island and Gardner Islet. After transferring to the harbor, board your boat for the scenic crossing to Española, a remote island known for extraordinary wildlife and dramatic coastal landscapes. A guided hike introduces you to species such as albatrosses, blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies and Española iguanas. Later, continue to Gardner Bay for snorkeling in clear waters, where colorful fish and marine life create a memorable contrast to the island’s rugged land scenery.

Continue your Galápagos discovery with another day around the islands, this time focusing on the vibrant underwater world near Gardner Islet. Snorkel among playful sea lion pups, schools of fish, marine iguanas and the shifting colors of the Pacific. Lunch is served on board before returning to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno in the late afternoon. The rest of the day is yours to relax, walk by the waterfront or simply enjoy the easy pace of island life.

Today’s day trip takes you to the remote Isla Lobos, also called Sea Lion Island. On this island a large and noisy colony of sea lions (ottaries) has made its home on the beach as well as in the surrounding waters. The island is flat, excellent for viewing wildlife and taking pictures. In addition to the numerous sea lions on the beach you can see rays, turtles, exotic tropical fish and red Sally lightfoot crabs on the volcanic shore. After a very interesting day of excursions on the island you return to your hotel on San Cristóbal in the afternoon where there is a free schedule for the rest of the day to do whatever you like.

Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Isabela Island, the largest island in the Galápagos. Begin with a visit to the Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center, where tortoise populations from several Isabela volcanoes are protected, bred and raised. Continue to the Humedales wetlands, an area of sandy beaches, rocky shores, mangroves and walking trails. Here, you can observe the island’s diverse coastal ecosystems, including all four types of Galápagos mangroves. The rest of the day is yours to relax on Isabela’s beaches.

After an early breakfast, you set out for Los Túneles, one of Isabela’s most remarkable snorkeling sites. From Puerto Villamil, travel by speedboat for roughly one hour to the Cabo Rosa lava tunnels, a surreal landscape of arches and channels formed by ancient lava flows. Both above and below the water, the scenery is unforgettable. Snorkel in shallow, clear waters where tropical fish, rays, sea turtles, seahorses and white-tipped reef sharks may appear. Penguins are often seen resting on the rocks and the chance to swim near sea turtles is a true highlight.

Spend the day exploring the volcanic heart of Isabela with a hike to Sierra Negra Volcano. Travel from Puerto Villamil to the trailhead, then begin a six-hour round-trip walk through forest, highland vegetation and dramatic geological formations. At the summit, take in the mindblowing scale of one of the largest volcanic craters in the world. Continue across striking lava landscapes with views toward the northern volcanoes of Isabela and Fernandina. After returning from the hike, enjoy free time to rest and recover by the sea.

Start early with a public speedboat transfer from Isabela to Santa Cruz. On arrival, meet your guide and head into the intense nature of the highlands, where giant tortoises roam freely in their natural environment. Enjoy lunch at a local farm before continuing to Puerto Ayora and checking in to your hotel. In the afternoon, return to the water for a bay tour around Santa Cruz, with time to visit coves and beaches, snorkel with marine life, swim near sea lions or simply relax on the shore.

Set out on a scenic walk from Puerto Ayora to Tortuga Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Galápagos. Its soft white sand, mangroves, cacti, marine iguanas, birds and turquoise water make it a wonderful place to kayak, swim or simply take in the coastline. After lunch, visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, one of the world’s leading centers for Galápagos conservation and natural history research. Learn about the scientific work that helps protect the islands and the species that make them so unique.

Today you will be going on an eco-focused day trip from Puerto Ayora to the stunning Garrapatero Beach on Santa Cruz Island. You will first cycle to the Cerro Mesa Ecological Reserve for a guided nature walk to take in the breathtaking views of the island. From there you will head to Garrapatero Beach where you will enjoy a relaxing picnic on the pristine white sand beach. You can then enjoy a swim in the crystal clear waters, go snorkeling, kayaking (if available) or simply relax in this paradise surrounded by mangroves, coastal plants and a variety of wildlife including flamingos, mallards and many other endemic species.

Your final full day in the Galápagos is reserved for a special excursion to an uninhabited island. Depending on weather, scheduling and National Park permits, you may visit Santa Fé, South Plazas, Bartolomé or North Seymour. Each island offers a distinct landscape and wildlife experience, from endemic land iguanas on Santa Fé and South Plazas to Bartolomé’s lava scenery and North Seymour’s frigatebirds and blue-footed boobies. Guided walks, snorkeling and lunch on board make this a fitting finale to your Galápagos adventure before returning to Puerto Ayora for your last evening.

Begin your final morning in the highlands of Santa Cruz, where you can enjoy a coffee surrounded by nature and observe giant tortoises moving through their natural habitat. It is a gentle and memorable way to say goodbye to the islands. After this last encounter, your driver will transfer you to the airport for your flight back to mainland Ecuador, where you will continue with your onward travels.
